Twenty-seven scholarships were awarded on June 5 at the June membership meeting of the Lake Oconee Area Builders association at Old Salem Park.  Tuesday’s scholarship presentation marked the eighth consecutive year the foundation has presented monetary awards to area students for post high school education costs.

LOABA President Charlie Vill, of Oconee Construction Services,  and LOABA Member Fran Faxon ( of whom the scholarship is named for ) presented the awards at the pavilion following luncheon featuring a low country boil.  “We are excited to announce we are awarding twenty-seven students, some for the second and third time ...and we have had quite a few new applicants. In total we have awarded one-hundred and four scholarships that totals to the amount of $45, 725.00 since 2011.” said Vill of todays presentation.  “To read the applications  and see how involved and accomplished these kids are is humbling. I am confident our future is in good hands” Vill added.
The Fran Faxon Scholarship Fund was started in 2011 in honor of LOABA’s very own Fran Faxon, an outstanding Georgian, U.S. Navy Veteran with 20 years of service, National Industry Leader and a dedicated member that demonstrated leadership and commitment to the organization for over 20 years.
Each Year the committee takes applications from family members and/or employees of current LOABA members that are seniors seeking to enter or current students seeking to continue their education full time at an accredited post- secondary institution or a certified technical school.
Money for the Fran Faxon scholarship fund is raised, in part by donations and through proceeds from the association’s annual Lake Vegas casino night.  This year’s event is planned for July 20 from 5:30 pm to 10 om at Da Corrado Ristorante at Lake Oconee.  The event is open to the public and tickets prices for Lake Vegas are $75 per person for tickets purchased before June 29. After the 29th, the price will be $100.
